The tech’s secret to better vision
So, how does the tech work? Molecules within the contact lens change shape when they’re bombarded with light, going from a closed shape to an open one.
When the molecules open, they absorb UV rays and darken. The molecules are active and filtering light at all times, but they’re more active in bright light outsidev.
You might be wondering: will these contact lenses give me creepy-looking black eyes? No. Dr. Alexander says that no matter how bright the light, and how much the molecules darken, your eye won’t look dramatically different.
“The eye still looks like an eye,” Dr. Alexander says. “These contact lenses are an enhancement to visual performance,” she adds. So much so, that for the first time, J&J Vision brought a non-prescription version to market so everyone can benefit. Dr. Alexander, for one, wears the contact lenses along with her glasses to better her visual performance.
“What I love about these contacts is that it allows us to go beyond what’s expected,” Alexander says. “Your eyes are your windows to the world. If you care about and prioritize your eyes, why wouldn’t you also want to maximize visual performancei?”
